Stakeholder (design process 2)

We need to put ourselves in other's shoe. In other words , an attempt or imagination to understand other's point of view in his/her circumstances. So for this week we become a stakeholder. The roles for our group are a 45-year-old father, a 17-year-old student and a 30-year-old single bachelor.
Each of us takes different roles. For me, I am given the role to be a student.
Then, I asked my housemate, whom her friend is 17 y.o overseas student in Singapore. Below are about her friend. Assuming James is the name.

James is a 17-year-old overseas student in Singapore, studying in ERC. Compare to his country, the living cost in Singapore is high. Because he has given an opportunity from his parents to study abroad, James doesn't want to burden his parents too much.He tried to find an affordable living space for him to stay. He finally stay at an apartment in Novena which is not really far from his campus. The cost of one person room is 1100 SGD . The size of his bedroom is around 2m x 3m. He felt the difference between his house in Indonesia and the place he is living now. From living in three-storey house that has big kitchen, living room, bedrooms, etc. Now he is living in an apartment with small bedroom that just allows him to walk few steps inside , sharing kitchen and bathroom with others.

If i were James, i think i need to set and arrange my stuffs tidily or else my bedroom will be so mess up that can cause no space for me to do things. It could be difficult for me to do some of my activities because of the narrow space.

Design Process (1)

The topic of my group for design process module is LIVING SPACES ARE GETTING SMALLER
My group, XKY, did a mindmap  and research of what we think the problems are.

Overpopulation, government policy, land shortage , people lifestyle , money problems
came to our mind as the causes of this topic.

We think that land shortage and overpopulation  are the main problem of living spaces are getting smaller.

Land shortage
In small city there's not much land for construction ,which will lead it more to the construction of high buildings in the city.  It can't be deny that the buildings, houses, etc will be packed as the city doesn't have spacious land to built those that had a huge gap from one to another . ex: Singapore,Hongkong

Overpopulation
Overpopulated city will cause the demand of houses to increase and larger land will be needed to built them.  Cities that are so packed like Shanghai,New York,Jakarta, etc often have to face the traffic jam. Too many transportation in the cities. Apartments are built in strategical area to make people more comfortable going out.(not facing traffic jam).

Money problems  rich people buy luxurious house;lower economy people might buy
an affordable one which mostly is small.
Government policy: population policy in china which only allows to have one child.
People lifestyle : Overseas students mostly live in hostel or share apartments with others.
Working people / travelers that stay temporarily in a city will probably prefer to buy smaller space.

Our solutions:            (without thinking how much money needed)
-Maximize the space        -underwater life
-Reclaim land                   -outer space life
-Underground living
-build houses in deserted area
